Must do activity when in Jamaica especially if you love Bob Marley and his music. Long and winding route to Nine Mile - suggest travel sickness pills before heading up there if anyone prone to this. We had Jermaine as our guide (our second trip with him) - as before a really friendly and knowledgeable guide, who looked after us and made additional stops for supplies etc.. There is a shack with Rastas at the entrance to the compound - for herbal supplies if that’s your thing - overpriced goods and a bit seedy. Lots of gift shops inside - hovering and browsing in these is encouraged whist waiting! The tour was done by Captain Crazy - one of Bob’s (probably many?!) cousins. His mad laugh was part of the show, but very entertaining. Very interesting to see evidence Bob’s simple upbringing and accommodation. Expect a few songs from a band inside (tips expected) - great music to be fair and got us dancing. Bob’s mausoleum was at the end of the roughly 45 min tour. Glad to have seen it. Tips again expected at the end. Worth the trip if you’re a fan!

Amazing trip, excellent way to see Jamaica's countryside and nature. It was a private trip so only 2 of us, this was great as it gave us some flexibility on what time to leave YS Falls. Drive took about 2 hours to get to the Black River, mainly due to potholes in road but they are resurfacing so journey time will start to decrease. Roads are winding in places so if you are prone to car sickness you might find the journey difficult although I am sure the driver would have stopped if we had asked. Take your own water for the journey. Our tour organiser/driver was great and told us a lot about Jamaica.Black River Safari: Our first stop and the highlight of the trip. Must have seen about 6 female crocs and 1 male. The scenery is breathtaking. Our guide was really knowledgable and showed us nesting birds and plant life whilst searching for crocs.The Black River was in the path of Hurricane Melissa so there was a lot of damage in the St Elizabeth area. The safari is recovering well, bathrooms are clean/modern and they are constructing a restaurant currently. You will be able to buy cold drinks but not a lot else currently so plan to eat at YS Falls.YS Falls: Basic changing rooms (no fee), good quality food available and plenty of pic nic tables both under cover and in the open. Take plenty of sunscreen and a towel.Views are amazing, you can walk up wooden steps beside the falls and there are a few seating areas on route if you need to get shade or take a break. The falls are not that high so it doesn't take long to get to the top. If you can't manage steps you can get amazing views from the bottom and use the swimming pools. We went mid May, it wasn't busy which made the whole experience better.

We booked the Appleton Estates/YS Falls/Black River Safari tour with Extreme Jamaca Tours for early February 2026. After we booked, Carlos reached out right away to say that Appleton Estates and YS Falls were not yet open after suffering damage from last Octobers hurricane. Carlos kept in touch as the trip approached, and luckily YS Falls reopened just before we went. So we ended up going to the Black River Safari and then having more time to spend at YS Falls, which was perfect. The region was really heavily damaged by the hurricane and the destruction was evident everywhere we went. Almost every building in the town of Black River was damaged or destroyed, and many areas did not have power. The Black River Safari lost 4 of their 6 boats, but still had two operational to take us out. We saw several types of birds and three crocodiles on our 1 hour river trip. I get the idea the mangrove forests were much more impressive before the hurricane damage but they were still interesting to see. The area definitely needs business, so please go if you can. YS Falls was wonderful. They had to almost completely rebuild the falls access road and walkways to the falls after the hurricane, so everything is basically new. The zip line was completely destroyed, but everything else looked perfect. We really enjoyed our visit. Carlos was good to communicate with before and after the trip. Our driver and tour guide was Randy and he was definitely one of the most knowledgeable tour guides we have ever had. He provided a ton of information about the recent hurricane and all the hurricane recovery efforts, and he also shared a lot of information about Jamaca, the local culture, the economy, the people, even the Jamaican license plate system. His lively conversation made the 2+ hour trip from Montego Bay go by in a flash.

It was a long day but very memorable. As rum drinkers back home, we loved the Appleton experience and of course, the tasting experience. Y’s falls was beautiful and surprisingly quiet. We had a lovely guide who took us across the falls and took some amazing photos and videos for us. Black river cruise was great for spotting wildlife. Saw several crocodiles and bird species. Kevin was our driver for the day. He assisted us and was our support every step of the day. Upon our request, he took us to a local food stop where we experienced the real authentic Jamaican food 10/10 We can’t praise Kevin enough. Very patient, very kind and very informative. He helped to make this a very memorable experience. Be prepared for the bumpy road conditions as the roads have lots of potholes. Loved this day.

Bob Marley’s Mausoleum at Nine Mile is a MUST DO if you’re visiting Jamaica. It’s quite a distance from the tourist towns so is inaccessible to tourists by public transport. Leslie was a great driver, and was happy to stop en route for the odd photo opportunity. Nine Mile itself is very well organised and the guides there were all relaxed and humourous … the weed probably helps! :-) We highly recommend visiting Nine Mile and Bob Marley’s Mausoleum.

Amazing experience all round.
We were picked up promptly by Leslie our driver, he was very professional, polite and friendly and made our trip to the mountains to see the Bob Marley mausoleum extremely enjoyable. He provided us with a very knowledgeable history of the local area and made us feel like we had known each other for years. The tour itself was amazing and we would highly recommend it for a great Personal experienced into the legend of reggae man himself, One ❤️ love.
